The past couple of weeks have been a massive contrast to the wet and stormy winter and we have had gorgeous sunny days, with foggy nights but the warmth in the sun has been a welcome relief from the long winter. We have spent today putting up the large Hems yurt onto its base and its been a fabulous sunny day - perfect for the task. I am lucky that all my helpers are experienced yurt builders and we have perfected the technique required to put the yurt up in a few hours. We have then spent a couple of hours having a picnic at the seating area, and are now ready for our first guests to arrive next weekend. Next year I am going to be running a course instructing interested parties on how to build a yurt so if anyone is interested in attending the course- (date tba) then please get in contact [email protected].

I am really hoping that Spring is well on its way. This winter has been the wettest winter since records began and everyone I have spoken to is looking forward to better weather in the near future. The air is much warmer today and one of my hens has decided to go broody, this is in my experience a very definite indication of better weather in about 3 weeks time, as that is how long it takes to incubate hens eggs. Hens are not very clever but they almost never want to go broody unless there is a good chance of raising their chicks. Chicks need warmth to survive, hence why I am thinking that the good weather is just around the corner! Today was a beautiful sunny day at the yurt camp and we are preparing to put up the yurts onto their bases in time for our first guests in a couple of weeks time. |
