![]() The Devon County Show is held once a year over three days around the third week in May. The show field at Westpoint is a massive arena and show ground and the organisers have the traffic management and parking arrangements well under control. Its always a fab day out with so much to see and do from all the rural crafts, agricultural array of stalls, showing of many different animals, horses and ponies, rabbits and guinea pigs, dogs, poutlry of many sorts and sheep and cattle. The show field also hosts a main arena with many displays and show jumping, this year we were treated to the Shetland Grand National racing - what a treat! My husband and I go every year on the Thursday which we fondly name "farmers" day. We always bring home lots of local produce which is available on sale including beers and ales, local cyders, sausages and cheeses and chutney - can't wait to go again next year! This week the weather has been a little changeable again but our most recent guests still managed to walk to the local pub, the Tally Ho for a meal despite the rain.

![]() I was beginning to wonder if the swalllows that have nested in our stable block would return again this year. We have had several nesting pairs over the past 10 years and this spring we had not seen them until last week. This is around a month later than usual so I felt very relieved to see them bobbing in and out of the stables examining the nests from the last few years. They are amazing aerial acrobats and seem to enjoy dipping into our lake and giving our guests a stunning view of their daily quest for insects. The late arrival from their winter in Africa is probably something to do with the windy weather we have had recently. They are amazing little birds and I love to see them. We are lucky to be having a mini heatwave this week - lovely sunny warm days for our guests - perfect for yurt breaks! |
