![]() View down the valley from yurt field 22-12-12 Christmas is nearly upon us and we have been experiencing lots of flooding in our fields due to the excessive rainfall - many parts of the UK have seen unprecedented quantities of rain and like many other parts of Devon, Hemsford has had its fair share of storms and rain. Its better than the icy conditions we have had a couple of years ago, but nevertheless disruptive as the lane outside Hemsford House becomes impassable, although the yurt field is well above the flood zone. When we first researched the possibility of having yurts in our fields we had to obtain not only planning permission from the local South Hams council, but also permission from the Environment Agency. The EA provided us with a map showing the flood zones and our yurts have been located outside of the 1000 year flood zone map to avoid any possibility of our guestsever getting damp! This year has been an amazing weather story with persistent rain throughout the summer and continuing throughout the winter. Regardless of the weather I have had many phone calls over the recent weeks from people who were interested in spending time in the winter and over Christmas in a yurt. Sadly our planning restrictions mean that we are unable to let our yurts for 12 months of the year with the season being restricted from March to November. However we are really delighted that so many people have found us and have been so keen to come and visit this wonderful part of Devon - even when its winter and its raining!!! Hopefully 2013 will bring some lovely dry warm weather and the rain will become a far distant memory!!!
