The 1st June is traditionally known as the first day of summer and the weather has been glorious for the past few days, although a little breezy at times, the sun is strong and there is a high risk of sunburn. The grass pollen count is very high and this year the grass has grown amazingly well and our fields are looking exceedingly lush and covered in a multitude of buttercups, and wild flowers. The goslings and their parents have now left our lake for their great adventures out into the world. The swallows however suffered from an attack last week when their nest in our stables was raided and the remains of their youngsters were strewn on the floor below. I suspect a sparrow hawk or perhaps an owl but the swallows seem unaffected by their loss and they have been busily rebuilding their nest in preparation for another brood. Swallows can have up to 3 broods per year. I was suprised and delighted this morning to receive a parcel in the post - a lovely letter and a box of chocolates from a grateful yurt guest - little things like this really mean the most. Thank you to the family who sent them for the considerate gift and kind words - it is very much appreciated.
