![]() The weather forecasters have been warning us for the past few days of a very large winter storm arriving over the South West of England so we were wondering how it would affect our yurt camp and our land and animals. Last night the rain started around 4.30pm and it was torrential, the strong winds, gusting to 90mph arrived in the early hours and I could not sleep as the storm raged. First light arrived and I peeked out of the curtains wondering what sights would be in front of me, and once I strolled around our fields I was pleasantly greeted with no obvious damage, quite a few leaves and small twigs littered the fields and the river Hems had broken its banks, which is a regular winter occurence. The yurts are totally unscathed by high winds, in Mongolia it is very windy on the Steppes and plains and yurts are made circular to allow the wind to flow around their circumference. Our horses and chickens have not taken any notice of the blustery conditions either. The end of the glamping season this year has been wet and wild, lets hope next summer will be a repeat of this one!
