Well the onset of winter is truly here this morning, with a frosty night last night coupled with some rather beautiful skies. Lots of black clouds interspersed with sunshine, and its a little breezy too. We have just said goodbye to the last guests for 2012 and a condition of our planning permission has meant that our yurts have to be taken down and stored over the winter months, between 15th November and 15th March. This will give us time to take stock of how the last few months have affected the yurts. The yurts have a life of around 10 years, but this year has been one of the wettest summers on record so it will be interesting to evaluate how this might have affected the structure of both the Hems and the Dart yurt. We are now hoping for just a few dry days so that we can remove and store the yurts and all the ancillary furniture without getting us and them too wet in the process. Its amazing to think that the Mongolians are so adept at taking them down and putting them back up again as they travel their nomadic way of life on the Russian Steppes. Its a way of life for the people of Mongolia and yurts are still used all over the country as family homes. The native people of Mongolia enjoy much drier but cooler weather than the UK but hopefully our two traditional authentic yurts will have coped well with the differing climate. With around 200 guests having stayed here over the summer it has been wonderful for all those people to enjoy a small part of the the heritage of the Mongolian people. We could never have dare hoped that our yurt camp would have enjoyed such popularity and we are thankful for the lovely comments from all of our guests. The yurt camp will be open again from the middle of March in 2013.
